future days
poem fourteen
I wrote this poem ages ago and it’s been sitting in my drafts for a while. When I wrote it, I was thinking a lot about graduation1 and specifically life after I graduate2. I feel like there is so much that I want to do and there’s always the possibility I’m not going to be able to do them.
what if i never get to see europe in the summer
blue seas and cobblestoned streets
never get to taste tiramisu in italy
or wind freshly made spaghetti around a fork
never get to go on a road trip out of state with my friends
wind in my hair and sand between my toes up north
what if i never get to explore the cities
and visit the local cafes and bakeries
never study the architecture
never take photos of the sunrise on an early morning walk
what if the future doesn’t quite work out
if i’m trapped eternally
in this town i have been in forever
with only the four walls of my same and plain old room
and old photos from younger, better days
clinging on to the ghost of being free
this year!
next year!

as someone from a smaller place growing up i feel this so much. ❤️🩹❤️🩹
Bro I genuinely started tearing up, also of course you mentioned tiramisu
