fighting the current
poem seventeen
the carefree light of my youth has dwindled
and the abyss blinds me
my eyes aching and blinking to try and stay open
the current drags me under
and i thrash under the waves
grasping for remembrances of the past
the water slips through my fingers
and the glimmer from the surface dims
the water is in my lungs
and i do not want to
but i breathe it in
embrace the change they all say
everyone goes through it
but here
in the ocean of my tears
i am alone
